It is with deep caring that this page is being made available to you. It is also with the sincere wish that you will not often find new items on this page.
All of our dogs are placed with a contract that states that if the owner is not able to keep the dog for any reason, that it is to be brought back to us. We will work with the dog and then determine if it is suitable for placement. If we place the dog a portion of the monies for placement will be refunded to the previous owner.

Kodiak is a standard size grey/white neutered male with brown eyes who came to live with us some time ago. He was born on October 25, 1996 in Pueblo Colorado. His breeder is no longer involved with the Alaskan Klee Kai. The owner told me that he has been a wonderful dog and has helped raise her children that were born after Kodiak came to live with them. A problem arose when school started this year, and the mother had to go back to work. A new baby sitter was in care of the children. A yard maintenance man came to work in the yard and the sitter was trying to get Kodiak to leave the children and go into the garage so he would be safe. Kodiak apparently misread the intentions and bit the sitter on the hand. He was put into quarantine for 10 days, and then they brought him to me as they were afraid for their children.
Since Kodi has been with us he has shown no aggressiveness under normal circumstances. He is a couch potato who loves to sit on your lap, but gets very excited and is eager to go when you get out the leash for a walk. The only time he has shown any annoyance is when about half a dozen young puppies are jumping on him at the same time --- he then just growls and tries to get away from them -- if they corner him he will growl louder and snap at the air.
He easily goes to anyone who comes to visit. We have been reluctant to find him a new home, as it did take him about a week to decide it was okay for him to be here with us. We love this dog, and would find him very easy to live with, except for the puppies and how they irritate him. since we will always have puppies around, we don't feel that would be fair to him.
here he is laying on the back of the couch under a picture of ancestors.
and this is a picture of his sweet face.

NOTE: A person put a deposit on Kodiak and I thought he was going to go to his ideal home as it was an older woman and her adult daughter living together where he would have room to run and play, yet could take one of his favorite positions which is on the couch, or on the lap. I agreed to save him for them for a month until they were ready to take him home.
Then I received an e-mail that stated that three weeks before they had decided not to take him as they had had so many traumas in their lives during the previous month.
Needless to say I am sorry that I did not keep notes on those who contacted me about Kodiak during that time. Those people were told that he was already taken and now, sadly, he is available again.
He can stay here as long as is necessary, but it would be better for him to go to a GREAT new home where he will be king of the castle.
Please do contact me if you would like to rescue this wonderful dog.
UPDATE: Kodiak is now living with his new owner who has expressed sincere gratitude for having been chosen as his companion.

MIST was at the Humane Society and was stated to be an Alaskan Klee Kai. She was such a frightened dog that no one could approach her and they were going to put her down. One of the volunteers offered to take her into her home with her own Alaskan Klee Kai and see if she could turn her around. Karen had Mist for about five months and diligently worked with her. Finally she decided Mist was ready to be considered for a new home.
Precious Paws rescue group, which is affiliated with UAKKA (United Alaskan Klee Kai Association) put out the word that this dog was in need of a new home. Kara and Larry Gamble, members of the AKKAOA (Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America) contacted Karen and arrangements were made for them to adopt Mist.
They drove from Arizona to Colorado, picked up Mist, and then came to see me so I could visit with two of my babies that they have owned for years. We had a very pleasant day, and I was amazed at how Mist reacted to them and to their two dogs. I took various pictures, and as soon as I get time I will post them here everyone's enjoyment.
It is obvious that either this is not an Alaskan Klee Kai or it is a throw back to the big dog size, but those wonderful people gave her a home and from last reports she is doing very well. While the Gambles were here, they fell in love with Kevitok who is about 4 pounds and will be a toy size. How funny to see him standing next to Mist who is about 32 pounds.
From the last reports I got the whole family is doing well and everyone is happy. Isn't that great?
